Raymond C. Morgigno, a native of Pearl, Mississippi, began his tenure as superintendent of Pearl Public School District on July 1, 2010. At the onset of his administration, Dr. Morgigno expressed his desire to build upon the pride and success for which the district has become known. "Pearl is special place where the community and schools work hand in hand. Because of this partnership, the Pearl Schools and Pearl community have both excelled to great heights”.
Dr. Morgigno is a 1989 graduate of Pearl High School. After graduation from Pearl High School, he attended Hinds Community College before continuing his education at Delta State University. At Delta State, Dr. Morgigno earned a Bachelor’s degree in Social Science Education in 1993. He earned his Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Mississippi in 1997 and his Ph.D in Educational Leadership from Mississippi State University in 2012.
Dr. Morgigno has served as a classroom teacher, an assistant principal, and as principal of Pearl High School. Dr. Morgigno also served for over twenty years in the Mississippi Army National Guard. He has served one tour of duty in Iraq and has held numerous leadership positions throughout his military career. He retired from the Mississippi Army National Guard in 2011 as a Lieutenant Colonel.
Dr. Morgigno realizes the value of an effective classroom teacher and seeks diligently for ways to offer opportunities for professional growth and to increase student achievement. For example, during school year 2008-2009, Pearl High School was listed as the top academic high school in the state of Mississippi. Morgigno credits this to teachers sharing best practices together and working every day to get better.
